HGTV has a really good show called "Fun Shui" that has some really great tips. Here is its webpage, which has a show schedule, but definitely scroll down & click on the Interactive Floor Plan. It will tell you exactly what types of things to put in each area of your home:
http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/shows_hshui/

Here is another really great article about how to apply feng shui to your bedroom:
http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_design_feng_shui/article/0,1793,HGTV_3371_5634809,00.html

I also have the book "Feng Shui for Dummies." I would say that it’s just "ok" b/c there was some information about colors, furniture plaement & symbolism that I wanted to know that I couldn’t find in there.

I’m buying a new bed. Here it is:http://www.moreplatformbeds.com/Skyline-Double-Tufted-Button-Bed-79XBED.htm
I’d like to practice feng sui to improve my life, but my bed is Earth, metal, and fire. I’ve read that metal destroys Earth, Earth dampers fire, and fire burns wood. Now I don’t know what to do…

you overanalyzed it and you kinda misunderstood it.

first, the kind of bed has nothing to do with fengshui. putting your bedroom in a specific location in the house is fengshui. basically you need to have a current mountain star (using flying stars method; mountain star is for health; and current means from period #8, which we are in right now until #1 (which includes #9) - these are future stars; current(8) and future(1 and 9) stars are considered as current, as opposed to being expired or having bad luck). but you need something with a good combination too aside from having a good mountain star. this varies from house to house, depending on the facing degree of your main door.

in fengshui there are 5 elements: fire, water, earth, metal and wood.

these elements interact and react with each other when they combine.

the enhancing cycle: fire (enhances) earth - metal - water - wood - fire

when enhancing cycle go backwards, it becomes the destroying cycle: fire (destroys) wood - water - metal - earth - fire

so when do you usually use this? when you draw the flying star chart of your house, you analyze when the elements combine to form new energy.

each energy is represented by a number to make analysis easy.

1- water
2,5,8 - earth (each has its own distinct characteristics)
3,4 - wood (one is a plant - small wood, the other is a tree - big wood)
6,7 - metal (also different from each other)
9 - fire

3 groups of 1 to 9 revolves around a 3 row by 3 column like a tic tac toe grid. there is a pattern to follow. so each box should end up with 3 numbers - these combinations will determine the characteristics of the energy inside your house depending on what location it is in. the combination can have a total good energy or a bad energy. of course you want your bedroom to be in a good energy combination with a mountain star that is current to give you good life (from the energy), and good health (from the current mountain star).

this is partly what fengshui is about. partly, because fengshui has many methods.

Pick up some shrunken voodoo heads and space them at 17-3/4" intervals on the north side of the beam.

BTW, feng shui is a joke that some oriental comedian is playing on you……

I’m new to feng shui, so sorry for the beginner question. I’m looking to paint my bedroom, and have been doing my research, but I’m still confused. Here’s some background information:

My gua number is 6 (1985), the front door of the house points NE, and the house was built in 1989. If it makes a difference, the house is on a cul-de-sac, which I don’t think is the best for energy flow.

My room falls in the upper-left corner of the bagua map. Currently all the walls are white, tan carpet, with the hallways of the house having brown hardwood floor. The roof of the house has red tile and receives a lot of sun, so I believe that’s creating a lot of yang energy.

The only direction I can place my bed is SE, which for me is the Huo Hai (mishaps) direction.

I’m thinking about painting the SE wall a darker shade of red with the rest of the walls either a stone gray or a taupe color. I red somewhere that painting certain walls can attract spirits, but I haven’t been able to find much information about this. My furniture is currently dark brown wood, but I can change the color if needed.

Am I looking at the right colors? If not, what colors should I consider? I read that you should use earth colors for the bedroom, but I’m confused because I’m not sure how my element color would affect this. Can someone please shed some light on this for me? I’m trying to learn all I can and would appreciate all the help I can get.

i see that you know 8 mansions method. but it just seems that you dont know other methods such as flying stars, which is more useful than 8 mansions (east-west).

forget about colors, they are irrelevant as far as fengshui is concerned.

and yes, having a house in a cul de sac is nt a good idea.

i dont really believe in remedies. becaue in fengshui there is no such thing as a bad thing remedied into a good thing. it is always bad thing made dormant, until the right time comes, and the bad thing will still happen whether you have the remedy in place ot not.

regarding the main door facing to northeast, which in fengshui is subdivided into 3 parts. ne1 has its own flying star chart, while ne2 and ne3 have the same chart (different from ne1).

ne1:
the best part to have your bedroom is the northeast part, because it has a 141 combination. (in flying stars method, numbers are used to represent energies to make analysis easier). secnd good location is the center of the house (417).

ne2 and ne3:
west of the house: 689, good for business (not bec of 8 mansions that this is also your success direction, but bec of 68 - which is success on property business); sw:144, good for love, again not because of 8 mansions, 14 = love, education.

i dont know why people are so focused with bedrooms. the thing in fengshui is that you need your house to have at least 70% have good fengshui, or you its goodness wont be effective. the other thing is that the bedroom is for health. then the kitchen or the position and facing of the stove is for your financial well being; it also attracts wealth into your life.

facing a bed is not really critical in fengshui. so we usually use 8 mansions method just to enhance other methods like flying stars.

My office is mostly white (the walls, the cabinets, the door, and the white board - duh). I’ve only had it for about two weeks now, and I think I’m getting headaches and less productive when I enter and sit down. What’s the best way to feng shui it?

Face your desk towards the door but at an angle…
Solid wall behind your back, never a window…
Never sit with your back to the door…
No sharp objects facing you on your desk…
No bonsai or spikey plants in office…
No open bookshelves behind you…
No piles of files on your desk…
Have a picture of a mountain behind your chair (no water in picture)…
A turtle behind you to the north…
All diplomas, awards, etc. hung on a south wall…
Southeast corner a little water feature…
Never face a mirror at work (a problem for hair stylists I guess)
