We enter our home through the garage. Our apartment is upstairs so when you come into our home half of it is in front of you and half {the part over the garage} is behind you. How do I place our home on a feng shui map? We never use our front door because there isn’t an easy way to park in the garage and then go around to our front or back doors.

so the door of your garage becomes th main front door of the house.

there is no such thing as the fengshui map… the bagua method is not a a fengshui method, at least no fengshui master recognize it as such. in my experience, i dont think that it even works - and i know it has been published in many books.

i still like to use classical fengshui methods. the most important thing about fengshui with regards to the front door is where it faces (exact degree facing), and the location of the door in relation to the whole house. why? because the facing direction dictates the energy distribution of the house, and what life are you going to have living in such house. while the location of the door describes what energy you are activating every time you use it.

i am aware that in some countries, you cannot just tilt the main front door. this is another reason why most people dont like to use fengshui. and it is impossible to apply good fengshui to all houses, because of this reason.

so regarding mapping, there is no such thing. the general thing to do is to use a compass and measure the facing degree of you garage door (where you enter the house). and use this to plot out the flying star chart of your house. this chart tells you where you need to live more - where to put the kitchen, bedroom; and where to put the toilet, garage, etc. it is also a good method to use when you can tilt the main door to shift the energy distribution. this is good if the rooms are already built and you can tilt the front door.

My door faces north, my window faces south, my closet is west. I have a bed, night stand, fountain, mirror, floor lamp, and dresser. I also have a lot of candles and I don’t know if there’s a certain place they need to be. Any tips would be helpful and appreciated!
Oh! And I also have a fan, but, not a ceiling fan.

You should get references from books or the internet by professionals. This way you won’t be trick by random people :P

what is the difference between the stair going up from left to right and a stair going up starts from right to left? is there any problem? feng sui? or scientific explaination? theory of design? etc…

We added a stairs wherever looks best. Some believe in superstitious, like going up means death in facing West, sunset. East is birth, like the sunrise.

If you believe in stuff like that, if not, have them anyway your house/front door faces.

I am in a relationship with a guy, we love each other a lot, I want to get married to him but lots of problems and opposition is blocking our marriage, do u know of any feng shui tips that i can do , to remove all the negativity and get happily married to him?

Different people have a tendency to believe in a lot of different things but belief in astrology is different than belief in daily horoscopes. There is a lot of difference between astrology systems that are used worldwide. It’s not the same in India, Serbia, U.S. or China. The truth is that when someone starts to learn astrology they will gain knowledge about it. Now, belief depends on what particular person may consider to be the truth.
/ Someone may think that it’s connected with magic. That’s wrong.
/ Someone may think it’s connected to tarot/numerology/feng sui et cetera. That’s, again, wrong.
/ Someone may think that it’s simple to work with. Like before, wrong.

Astrology IS NOT a science because it can’t be compared to a science by any practical means. Astrology is a collection of human knowledge about the influence of the sky bodies (planets, stars et cetera) and their "influence" on living things. Humans, to be precise. It is around more than 4.000 years and it will still need a lot of researching considering everything that represents ASTROLOGY itself.

here is my theory - there is something called the Forer Effect that encompasses the idea that many people tend to believe in personality descriptions and confirm their accuracy if they are told that such descriptions were tailored to themselves personally.

More info can be found on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forer_effect

my question to you guys is- why do you believe in horoscopes/astrology? why do PEOPLE in GENERAL believe in horoscopes/astrology?
…it’s not a rant -_- i just want to see WHY people believe in astrology??? i don’t see why when I write a long question, it’s suddenly accused of being a rant.

advice- READ IT.
☮Pisces☮-

because unlike you, I am pretty open minded to things. I put this in here because I want to see why people believe in it. I am interested in horoscopes myself, since I find it fascinating.

Please, no more BS answers. I want to people to seriously answer my question. Why do you believe in horoscopes?
☮Pisces☮-

It’s quite all right. I guess I’m just pissed that people aren’t answering my question in the fullest extent… I just want to see it from another perspective.
meshia of rebellion- thanks! hmm i see that some horoscopes are pretty descriptive!

but sadly, I have to disagree that astrology is indeed technically pseudoscience.

"Astrology, unfortunately, cannot be called consistent either internally or externally. Demonstrating that astrology is not consistent externally with theories known to be true is easy because so much of what is claimed about astrology contradicts what is known in physics. This wouldn’t be such a problem if astrologers could demonstrate that their theories explain nature better than much of modern physics, but they can’t - as a consequence, their claims cannot be accepted. "

and i’m sorry! I can’t reply to any others! But thanks too all of you who had decent answers! I really appreciate them! I have learned a few more things about astrology thanks to you guys.

I’m Agnostic when it comes to Astrology(just like with religion, although I have my own theories on religion and spirituality haha). I don’t know for sure if it is true, and I don’t know for sure if it isn’t true. But after researching my chart it’s just so damn accurate! Of course there is that tiny voice in the back of my head that says,"you’re just picking the traits that are more like you" "this could all be vague and general and says for all the other signs" "how do you know this is accurate" and etc.

What I have noticed is that plenty of sign have characteristics that are a lot alike. But that seems fine. Cuz there are still main points that they don’t share. I know I don’t have a personality of, say, a Gemini. Sure there are a few things that are similar but know.

What I like about Astrology is that it explains the unexplainable about people. Why are we who we are? Besides the family and peers influence, there is something else. Even if Astrology ends up to be complete bullshitt, it makes me put things in perspective and be more understanding and accepting of different people, no matter what the personality. Supports the idea of everyone being and individual, and has individuality. After starting to study astrology I can easily say I’m more patient with others, and give them time. They are who they are. And it’s fun to say, so and so is this way because of their influence on an Aries mercury. It just explains things. i don’t know how else to describe it.

It’s not that I really believe in it, but just keep astrology in mind. Just like how I could say I believe in a team mate, but they still could just as well totally fu3k up and cost us the game, but I believe in them because it gives hope. That probably doesn’t make any sense to what I’m trying to explain.

Plus the fact that Astrology has been around longer then most major religions, such as Christianity, in the time of Socrates who was a genius, or the Mayans/Aztecs/Incas who could some how make this dead accurate calender or such amazing buildings with out technology or animals, kinda makes one think. Of course ancient Greeks believed in all these crazy myths and legends but they still had people who were even smarter then most of today’s modern folk intelligence. The starters of Algebra, physics, astronomy. Today people fallow those such things. But then with Astrology it’s like, is this as true as the ancients facts of astronomy and algebra that we fallow today, or is it just superstition or made up like all their Greeks gods. Who knows?

Yet here I am after all the possibilities of it being a scam. Astrology has great advice no matter what ones sign is, on improving character flaws or bad habits. And then mentions ones supposive strengths they should continue with or feel good about themselves. It’s not like Astrology causes harm to anyone, if anything it brings an open mind. Sure some dimwits don’t know shitt about astrology and use it wrong, accusing a twelth of the world as whores/jackassses, idiots, just cuz of one or a few people they don’t get along with.

I don’t really believe in anything, instead I theorize about all the possibilities. I don’t know if reincarnation is real, or if souls are real, but I still support the idea. I guess it just makes sense out of such a confusing world and life in general.

It does irritate me when people come on here and call us all idiots for "believing" in astrology and not giving it a chance. It’s not fair. And then they generalize that we all are crazy pot heads. Just like how kinda Atheists bother me. I can understand why they don’t believe in what they can’t see, being skeptical and not believing in something just cuz society tells you to is a good thing! But how do they know 100% there isn’t some kind of truth. The don’t. blahblahblah that’s why I’m Agnostic when it comes to religion. I don’t really give a damn actually. On topic again, it’s just irritating when people keep questioning us on why we believe in something so bogus so I get defensive cuz it’s not fair. Why can’t they just let us be instead of insisting wre all stupid. But I understand why your asking, cuz at least you are keeping an open mind, so I’m not ranting against you, no worries.

I don’t know if that answered your question, but I tried and it took me over 20 minutes lol.
Kwaheri :)

I have 2 doors to my room one that is to the outside and the other that is to the rest of the house. From everything that I read, you dont want to be in line with the door (doors in my case) but I also read that you want a strong wall behind you and the only thing that keeps me out of line with the doors is the putting my bed under the window. Will that work? I have a ton of stress in my life and I’m feeling negative about my living space. Thought Feng Shui might help…

Business people as well as common folks throughout the world improve all aspects of their lives using Feng Shui. Although the exact origins of feng shui are debatable, it is thought to have originated in China about five thousand years ago. According to Feng Shui cultural and social issues are influenced by natural, metaphysical and cosmological factors.

Anyone that has researched feng shui history knows that this level of interaction between all things is the theory of chi. Although chi is present everywhere, it pools in special places which are very auspicious in feng shui. When a less than auspicious placement occurred, Feng Shui cures were sought to change the flow of energy. This inclusion of nature into the living environment is the first point in Feng Shui and it provides solid ground for higher levels above. The art of Feng Shui is the balancing of energies through adjusting the relationships of particular items in the environment. In Feng Shui, a home and family were lucky if they were blessed to be placed in the most auspicious surroundings.

I’m a single mother. I need all the help I can get just to have a prosperous life with my son. I heard that feng shui can help.

Feng shuai resides with the tooth fairy, call her up and see if she can give you some tips. Otherwise, make sure you have a clear path through your new home, don’t put furniture, throw rugs, or plants in harm’s way and you and your new son should live quite safely.

I was curious, as I’m sure the rest of you were when they announced this new program airing on HGTV on July 22, if it would be a true depiction of what the Staging life is like. I would have to say that it’s probably the most realistic of the shows that are out there today, but still doesn’t tell the whole story. Regardless, here are some things that I feel you could learn from the show.

1) Have a plan for your project. I’m actually a little shocked by the lack of planning and utter chaos that is depicted. Maybe it’s just for TV drama to make it more interesting, but realistically, if that’s how you are running your business, you NEED TO TAKE CONTROL immediately.

My recommendation to you is:

a) always see the property beforehand

b) take before photos

c) map out plans for each room so that choosing inventory is more targeted and streamlined

d) create a list of staging inventory needed.

There is absolutely no reason why most projects should take more than a day. I would say 97% of the straight “staging” projects I’ve worked on was completed within one day. Anything that took more was because of the size of the project (5000+ square foot home or multiple units) OR if there were delays on other related projects.

When I first started my staging business, I was running back to the warehouse to pick up things we forgot or shopping at the last minute because we didn’t have what we needed, and I’m not saying that you won’t still have to do this occasionally, but you want to avoid these delays as much as you can and the best way to do that is to have a plan going into every single project.

2) Do be tactful with your clients. The Designers on “The Stagers” are good at keeping their opinions to a minimum in front the client. Some of the other Staging shows seem to enjoy poking fun at how awful a home looks. I’m all for being truthful and honest with your clients, but being tactful will definitely earn you more brownie points and help you maintain your professional image.

Most of the time, they already know their property is not in “top selling” condition, that’s why they called you. There’s no reason to make a mockery of the situation. Perhaps again, the criticisms voiced are for ratings, but most real life people would not be too thrilled with you if that’s how you approached them.

3) Do Keep your Inventory Organized. This is always a challenge for any Staging Company. It’s a never ending struggle with having “too much” when it all comes back and not having enough when you’re super busy.

The Dekora warehouse featured on the show is enormous compared to probably 99% of the staging firms out there. Most of us do not have the luxury of a 10,000 square foot space with seemingly unlimited inventory available. I started off with storing my inventory in our one car garage and back stairs when my husband and I lived in a townhouse. We eventually graduated to one large storage unit, then two, and finally to an 1100 square foot warehouse.

Then there was the challenge of keeping the zones organized - linens, kitchen accessories, bath accessories, floral/greenery, silk trees, lamps, chairs, art, etc. We toyed with the idea of building shelving so that we could capitalize on the vertical space in the warehouse, but then there was the safety issue with our team members going up and down.

I can’t say we ever really perfected “Staging the Warehouse”, but one thing we always tried to do was unpack after a destage and put everything back into their respective zones so that it was easy to pull inventory for the next project. The more disciplined you are in this area, the more sane you can remain. I actually designated Fridays or a day when there were no Staging Projects scheduled as Warehouse days - time to reorganize, clean and repair inventory.

4) Do Keep in Mind Who the Prospective Buyers will be and Design the Staging Accordingly. This skill will set you apart from just being a “wannabe” stager to being a true Real Estate Partner and a Professional Staging Designer.

There are many Real Estate Agents who are guilty of this as well. They don’t keep in mind who the target audience is - who would be your prospective buyer? Is it a young family? Are they empty nesters? Are they young bachelors/bachelorettes? These considerations must be top of mind when designing your Staging.

It’s not about just adding artwork and putting furniture into a room. The personality that is added with accessories should portray the type of lifestyle that one would want to live in that home. This is one thing that the Designers on the show are good at exploring and working with.

5) Build a Staging Team. This is something all of you should work towards. Just as on the show, they have the Staging Boss, Senior Stager, Home Stager, Staging Assistants, Movers, Handymen, etc., so should you.

My role was a cross between the Staging Boss and the Senior Stager as I was never completely hands-off. Building a team to work with not only makes each project more efficient, it also makes it a lot of more fun because you can bounce creative ideas off of one another.

I’ve had people on my team at all levels. Movers who just helped move inventory to and from the staging sites (mostly large pieces of furniture so we can totally relate to the sofa not fitting in the elevator or door - I dreaded getting those calls), Staging interns who actually did hands-on staging work, but can be the perfect team member to help wipe down furniture, clean mirrors and art, iron bedding, pump up airbeds, etc.

I also strongly believe there should be a Team Lead so that there is someone who is in charge on-site, otherwise it would be too chaotic.

Here are few other tips depicted on the show that I you should definitely keep in mind for your own businesses (if you’re not already doing so):

* Incorporate feng shui principles in your staging (in some parts of the country, THIS IS HUGE - like So. Cal)

* Don’t forget to address curb appeal issues

* Paint over unattractive, unmarketable wall colors

* Add dramatic art and accessories for high impact

* Bring rooms back to its originally intended purpose

* Don’t fight with what’s not working, like trying to use the homeowner’s things

* Use scale appropriate furniture
